5 O'Jonathan's Concerto for descant recorder and string orchestra (2001) links below
I embarked upon the composition of this concerto when I had just taken up the Irish Whistle and begun to participate in pub seisiuns. The first movement, 'if I sit this one out', is directly influenced by the idea of a musician sitting there trying to pick up the tunes. The second movement, 'clouds drift on silver wings', evokes a more ethereal mood, while the third movement, 'saltare' (Italian: to jump) comes from my love of medieval dance music and its predominantly joyous character.
